Dr. Jennifer (Jen) Rickner grew up in a small farming town in Iowa which is where her passion for veterinary medicine began. This led her to attend to Creighton University School of Pharmacy and graduated with her Bachelors of Science and Doctorate of Pharmacy degrees. Jen worked in a community setting before she discovered her appreciation for pharmacy compounding. Jen has over 8 years’ experience in compounding pharmacy with her primary focus being Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN). She currently is the only Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) Master Specialist in the state of Nebraska. During her LDN trainings she attended lectures by national and international experts in their field. She works with providers and patients to develop specialized medication protocols for autoimmune disorders, Long-covid, pain management, and many other conditions. She loves working with patients throughout their journey to find the dose of LDN that works best for them.
Discover the Power of Low Dose Naltrexone
Naltrexone was approved by the FDA in 1984 for treatment of opioid addiction. The typical dosing for his condition is 50mg -100mg. However, at much lower doses, the medication has the potential to treat a number of ailments ranging from auto-immune conditions to chronic pain. When we talk about Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN), we mean doses that are a 10th or less of the standard dose of naltrexone. Most of the research studies have used 4.5 mg per day but doses range from 0.001 mg–8 mg in clinical practice. At the low dosage level, naltrexone shows extraordinary properties, including analgesia and anti-inflammatory actions, which have not been reported at larger dosages. One of the other effects is that it increases the production of your own endorphins. Endorphins are produced in the brain and they help relieve pain and increase feeling of well-being.
There is an emerging interest in patients seeking nontraditional treatment options for managing their chronic pain. Opioid addiction has long been an issue with pain management, pushing more patients to find alternatives with lower risks. LDN is a therapy that may fulfill the “4 L’s” that many patients look for when using nontraditional therapies: low risk, low side effect profile, low dose, and low cost.
The possible benefits of LDN can branch into many other conditions that are related to inflammation.
For example:
- Pain
- Crohn’s disease
- Psoriasis
- Eczema
- Fibromyalgia
- Multiple sclerosis
- PCOS
- Depression
- Headaches
- Covid long hauler
- Chronic itching
- Hashimoto’s disease
